BEAVERTON, Ore. – The City of Beaverton Arts Program is proud to announce the following projects that will be supported by grant funding from the Art Lives Here: Place and Neighborhood-Based Projects grants, and Community Arts Organizations and Projects grants, which is funded by the City of Beaverton.
Art Lives Here: Place and Neighborhood-Based Projects
A new addition to the grants program, these grants support community-led place and neighborhood-based art projects that activate and enliven publicly-accessible places and enhance Beaverton’s neighborhoods. Project duration may vary and could be a one-time placemaking event, performance, creative wayfinding or other artwork installation that is on display temporarily or permanently.
Recipients of these project grants include:
ADAPT – Party in the Park $5,000
Party in the Park is an event that highlights and celebrates our local dance community through performances by local dancers, a dance party with DJs playing a diverse genre of music, and free outdoor dance workshops. This event will bridge the local dance community and Beaverton residents by fostering an environment in which dancers, artists, spectators, and everyone in attendance can connect through socializing, dancing, or collaborating.
Beaverton Civic Theatre – SnowFest $5,000
Beaverton Civic Theatre (BCT), in partnership with Music Together Beaverton, Beaverton City Library and artist Joel Henriques, presents SnowFest, a free family-friendly weekend of creative arts and early literacy engagement. The festivities run from Friday, December 20 through Sunday, December 22, and include the SnowBALL, a puppet show and performances for kids. Throughout the weekend, six interactive family storytimes feature the reading of a book, acting out the book, singing a song and making an art project related to the book. Art projects accompanying the stories offer the opportunity to explore sculpting, collage, mixed-media, drawing and painting.
Beaverton Downtown Association – Beaverton CoSign $5,000
The Beaverton Downtown Association is implementing CoSign, a collaborative business signage project that brings artists, business owners, and sign fabricators together to create 10-12 unique and artistic business blade signs in historic downtown Beaverton. These signs will project perpendicular from exterior business walls, drawing attention to businesses that may otherwise be easily overlooked by injecting art into the downtown Beaverton community.
Community Arts Organizations and Projects
These grants are open to individual artists, arts and culture groups, and Beaverton schools. Awards are available to applicants who bring people together to experience and explore art, assist local artists, celebrate cultural diversity through art, spur development and stewardship of art, and/or educate the community on the value of art.
