Broadway Rose Theatre Announces its 2022 Season of Musicals

Tigard, OR – After more than a year and a half of uncertainty, one thing remains crystal clear: Live performance is irreplaceable. As Broadway Rose builds back, the theatre is thrilled to offer a lineup of fun, uplifting, and hilarious musicals to celebrate the magic that happens when audiences and artists come together. The 2022 season features five mainstage productions, all performed at the New Stage located at 12850 SW Grant Ave., Tigard. When you take your seat next season, Broadway Rose hopes that not only will you be entertained and transported, you’ll also feel positively energized.


First up is Honky Tonk Laundry, playing January 27 – February 20. Wash your cares away with this jukebox musical full of country favorites from Carrie Underwood, Trisha Yearwood, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, and more! When Lana Mae Hopkins, owner and proprietress of the Wishy Washy Washateria, hires Katie to help out, they soon find themselves up to their elbows in soap, suds, and cheatin’ hearts. The women join forces to transform the laundromat into a bootscootin’ honky-tonk and exact a touch of revenge against those that done ‘em wrong – all while offering up some good, clean fun! Written by Roger Bean. 



The second show of the season is Don’t Hug Me, playing April 14 – May 8. Oh, for cryin’ in yer snow shoes! It’s the coldest day of the year in Bunyan Bay, Minnesota when a slick karaoke salesman arrives at the bar and turns the locals’ lives upside down in this “terrifically silly” (LA Weekly) romantic comedy. With over-the-top songs like “My Smorgasbord of Love,” “Upside Down in My Pickup Truck,” and “He Wore a Purple Tux,” you’ll be laughing ‘til the spring thaw! Music by Paul Olson with book and lyrics by Phil Olson.


The summer production is You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, playing July 7 – 31. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts gang explore life’s great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, swoon over crushes, and celebrate the joys of friendship. Based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, this award-winning musical has delighted audiences of all ages with its charm, wit, and heart; inspiring several national tours, television productions, and a Broadway revival. Book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner with additional dialogue by Michael Mayar. Additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.


In the fall Broadway Rose will present the 2018 off-Broadway musical, The Evolution of Mann, playing September 22 – October 16. Henry Mann, a thirty-something New Yorker, is eager to settle down…or so he thinks. After receiving an invitation to his ex-fiancée’s wedding, Henry – with help from his lesbian roommate, Gwen – embarks on a quest to find his perfect date in this new musical comedy. Featuring an original score by Drama Desk Nominee Douglas J. Cohen (Children’s Letters to God) and book and lyrics by Dan Elish (13: The Musical) based on his novel Nine WivesThe Evolution of Mann is “A great date musical… a witty how-to for establishing lasting relationships.” (BroadwayWorld).


The season concludes with the fan favorite holiday revue, A Very Merry PDX-mas, playing November 23 – December 22. Combining classic carols, holiday pop songs, and original offbeat material created especially for Broadway Rose audiences, this holiday revue reminds us of everything that we love about our “ever green” city. It’s “a charming package of all the funky and endearing points of culture that make our city. For two hours you’ll get lost and be reminded that there’s no place like home for the holidays.” (Oregon ArtsWatch). The production is conceived by Abe Reybold.
