Tigard, OR – Broadway Rose Theatre Company kicks off its 2020 Season of Boundless Vision with Up and Away, at the Broadway Rose New Stage. Preview performance is Thursday January 23, with opening night on Friday, January 24, and performances continuing through February 23. Evening performances are Thursday through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are at 2 p.m. on Sundays, and on Saturdays, February 1, 8, 15 and 22. There will be a special Thursday matinee performance on Thursday, February 20. Performances are held at the New Stage located at 12850 SW Grant Avenue in Tigard. Tickets are priced from $30 to $50 for adults (depending on date). Tickets in the upper section for ages 6-18 are $20 and ages 19-35 are $25. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. $5 tickets are available for Oregon Trail Card holders through the Arts for All program. Not much happens in Farmtown, USA, home of brothers Joe and Jerry Jessup. So, when Joe realizes he has superpowers, he hightails it out of town to seek fame and fortune in “Big City.” When he finds trouble instead, jittery Jerry is forced to follow – and their boring life is turned upside down into a rip-roarin’ adventure! Toss in an eccentric billionaire, a plucky reporter, and dastardly villains, and you’ve got one epic tale of the world’s FIRST superhero.
“I saw the premiere of the show in Pittsburgh two years ago,” said director and Broadway Rose co-founder Dan Murphy. “The show was so fun that I knew we needed to bring it to Broadway Rose.” A musical comedy spoof of comic book crusaders, Up and Away combines old fashioned stage magic with rapid-fire character changes and plot twists to sweep audiences off their feet. Five actors play over 40 characters!
Book and lyrics by Kevin Hammonds with music by Kristen Bair. The Broadway Rose production will be directed and choreographed by Dan Murphy, with music direction from James Pick. The creative team includes Phil McBeth (Set Supervisor/Technical Director), Vanessa Elsner (Costume Supervisor), Joel Ferraro (Lighting Designer), Brian Karl Moen (Sound Designer), and Jessica Junor (Production Stage Manager).
The cast comprises Paul Wrona as Joe Jessup, Colin Stephen Kane as Jerry Jessup, and Malia Tippets as Susie Dare., and supporting cast members Joe Theissen and Danielle Valentine.
