Call for Students: SHIFT, an Experiment in Fashion Design. Deadline: Dec. 11

This program is an opportunity for students grades 3 to 12 to flex their creative design muscles by collaboratively designing a garment for a drag performer made with found and recycled materials with the mentorship and support of a professional designer. Student designers will also fabricate a piece of the garment, but given COVID 19 restrictions, student and adult designers will not be able to work side by side in the full garment fabrication this year. In order to follow all COVID 19 protocols, all meetings between student, adult designer and drag performer will take place virtually. Student designers must be able to commit to 5 to 8 meeting sessions between January 2021 and April 2021.

The virtual fashion show of the final designs, modeled by drag performers, will be part of a virtual gala fundraiser for Young Audiences to support our ongoing work to provide arts education opportunities to young people in our community. The virtual gala will be broadcast on May 13, 2021.

Applications due Friday December 11th. A waitlist will be created if there’s more interest than availability.
