PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The “Foundations” Mural Project consists of conceptualization, preparation, and execution of a Mural on the east facing wall of the Alpine Storage Facilities. This project is the third project of a series of Mural installations planned over the coming 3-5 years.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
– Create an approachable art piece attractive to locals and visitors
– Add visual interest and culture to a colorless area
– Be highly visible from a distance
We wish for the Mural to be representative and respectful of the McMinnville area and create a sense of place. This location sits across from the Boutique Retreat, a tiny house vacation rental property and towards the beginning of Alpine Avenue. Alpine Avenue is a 6-block portion of the Granary District (an industrial up-and-coming makers’ district full of wineries, tasting rooms, restaurants, breweries, and shopping). It is a prominent location in the heart of our City, located at a crossroads between our history and our future. It will serve as an important part of the landscape for years to come. Submissions should reflect the themes above.

OWNERSHIP
Permission to paint this mural has been obtained in writing from the building owner. The Mural will become the property of the City of McMinnville. The Artist/s will own the copyright to this Mural, however, the Partners and City of McMinnville will have unlimited rights to use images of the Mural for advertising, promotion or other similar uses. This provision will be agreed to in writing between the parties before any paint is applied.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION
The location of the mural is on the east facing wall of the Alpine Storage building shown below; dimensions are roughly 110’ wide x 10’ tall. The exterior wall upon which the mural is to be painted is sheet metal. It is divided into four (4) sections divided by three rain downspouts. The business sign will be redesigned and replaced at or near the same time as the mural.
The mural proposal may cover up too all four (4) sections of the wall, but not less than two (2). If it covers the section with the business sign, the artist may propose a replacement sign in keeping with or as part of the mural, but if the proposed replacement sign is not acceptable to the business, the business may have its own sign fabricated. We do not know if yet if additional funds will be available if the selected artist incorporates the sign into the mural (some things will need to be worked out to a mutual agreement). The sections selected by the artist/s may be one (1) single mural with continuity or each section may beunique. If each section is unique, we would prefer they be related in some fashion such as a theme.
