The City of Hillsboro Cultural Arts Division is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by artist Catherine Bede, curated by Cultural Arts staff. The exhibition, featuring a collection of watercolor paintings and pen and ink drawings, will be on display through the months of May and June in the Hillsboro Civic Center’s Shirley Huffman Auditorium and the adjacent gallery wall outside the auditorium. The Civic Center is located at 150 E. Main St. in Hillsboro, and is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
A graduate of Pacific University and Pacific Northwest College of Art, Bede has been showing her work throughout Washington County since 1999. Bede works primarily with botanical and floral still life painting, seeking out and highlighting small moments of everyday beauty. “There is beauty in any moment. Even the smallest things,” Bede says. Whether depicting the blooms of hydrangea, dogwood, or rhododendron, Bede’s minimalist compositions and delicate washes of pigment highlight those moments of beauty we might find in the world if we take the time to look.
Bede is the Owner and Director of Catherine Bede Gallery in Downtown Hillsboro. Established in 2016, the gallery features original fine art and reproductions by local artists working in a range of media and offers classes and workshops. Catherine Bede Gallery won the Best of Hillsboro Award in the Art Gallery category for 2017 and is an anchor of Hillsboro’s First Tuesday Art Walk.
