Conference: Meeting LGBTQ Needs in Schools

  • Post category:Humanities

Pacific University

College of Education & Center for Gender Equity

The goal of this workshop is to facilitate a learning environment in which all students can thrive.  This workshop explores issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students in our public schools. It combines presentation, discussion, group activities, a panel of teachers and counselors, and a panel of students, all designed to give participants the tools to effectively support LGBTQ students.  We will discuss how to respond when LGBTQ students are targets of verbal or physical bullying in schools, designing inclusive classroom activities, and working with parents.

Jenn Burleton, Executive Director of Transactive is our plenary speaker. Jenn is an outspoken advocate on behalf of transgender and gender diverse children and youth. For over twenty years Jenn has played a primary role in raising local and national awareness of the challenges these children and their families face. She is a respected expert, visionary and leading thinker on gender identity and gender expression.
