(Hillsboro, Ore.) — As part of the First Tuesday Art Walk reception for the continuing exhibition, “Take Flight,” the Walters Cultural Arts Center (527 E. Main St., Hillsboro) invites the community to enjoy live music and dance on Tuesday, September 3, from 5 – 8 p.m. This event features a special salsa dance demonstration and introductory mini-class by dancers Eva and Mauricio Valadrian from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and, a musical performance by up-and-coming local guitarist JoJo Scott from 5-6:30 p.m., Guests of all ages will also have an opportunity to make their own DIY Clothespin Dragonflies, and light refreshments will be provided thanks to our supporting sponsor, Decadent Creations
“Take Flight” gathers together the talents of Cindy Geffel, Lieta Gratteri, and Michael Loen for colorful flights of the imagination. Inspired by “the daily flights and behavior of the local bird population,” the art of Cindy Geffel presents what she calls “a mash up” of movement and memoir with playful, kaleidoscopic introspection and observation. Also drawing her inspiration from birds, Lieta Gratteri shows her evolution as an artist through a range of warm, contemplative, nature-inspired works. Michael Loen, who describes his paintings as “colorful, decorative abstracts employing collage elements,” creates bold, thought-provoking landscapes using elements of history, humor, and nostalgia.
The First Tuesday Art Walk is free, open to the public, and takes place on the first Tuesday of every month throughout Downtown Hillsboro from 5 – 8 p.m. Exhibitions at the Walters Cultural Arts Center are open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Walters is located at 527 E.
