Nick Franz Featured Artist at Clark’s; Andee Joyce Musical Entertainment
Nick Franz is March’s featured artist at Clark’s Bistro and Pub, 264 E. Main St. with an opening reception on First Tuesday, March 3 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Musical entertainment for the reception will be Andee Joyce.
Nick Franz says he first got interested in art when he responded to a match book cover telling him to “Sketch This Picture.” Of course they wanted him to sign up to go to their art school in the Midwest and his mother wouldn’t let him go.
However, with a lot of self- training and a class here and there he has developed his artistic style and continues his classes with Jullane Rich at the Influence Art Gallery where he currently shows his watercolors.
Entertaining at the opening reception is singer/songwriter Andee Joyce who takes the last 70 years of pop, rock, soul, blues and world music and does it her way. She plays a Little Martin, a miniature Les Paul copy or a uke bass solo or with other musicians and her voice takes on the perspective of a person with alternate wiring with panache, humor and charm.
Judith Shortt, realtor for The Phoenix Group will host this event. Remember, always, there is free wine, samples from Clark’s menu and fun meeting friends who also enjoy art and music in Hillsboro. Plan your Art Walk journey to include Clark’s Bistro & Pub when you come to downtown Hillsboro, which has become the art destination in northwest Oregon.
Mark McDowall Featured at Weicherts; Randy Morrison For Music
For the month of March at Weicherts, 231 E. Main St., Hillsboro, the featured artist is Mark McDowall. You can see his photographic artwork at the opening reception held on First Tuesday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be hor d’ouervres and wine as well as musical entertainment by a local singer/guitarist Randy Morrison.
The artist was born and raised right here in Hillsboro and has spent his life in the Forest Grove area. He grew up in a house full of art as his father was an artist working in clay and his mother was making crafts. His love of art came in the form of photography when his brother left him a camera. That started his love of photography developing his research, training and then searching the internet for beautiful and interesting places to photograph.
Recently bird photography has become the focus and the Fern Hill wetlands offer a variety of birds that McDowell has been taking pictures of and classifying different ducks. He also took a trip to Tule Lake on the California border where he got some shots of bald eagles and several varieties of hawks.
Entertaining at the opening reception is Randy Morrison also a long time local resident. He plays the guitar and has a unique style of easy listening singing you won’t want to miss.
