BEAVERTON, Ore. – The events season is here and changes to this year’s schedule have been made to maintain the safety of community members and observe state guidelines on large gatherings. The fountain at City Park, a popular summertime attraction, will remain closed out of an abundance of caution and based on the probable inability to appropriately maintain distancing. The fountain closure will precede already planned upgrades and improvements in progress with construction planned to begin in fall. Fountain construction will include relocation of an underground vault, upgrading of the mechanical equipment and piping, and replacement and resizing of the fountain splash pad.

Schedule and Changes to 2020 Beaverton Community Events:

Bike Beaverton has become an event that you can participate in whenever you would like! The Bicycle Advisory Committee has created fun and scenic bike routes where you can ride at your leisure while exercising caution, following posted signs and remembering to wear your helmet. This is a fun and healthy family activity that is great on nice days. Routes have been posted at www.BeavertonOregon.gov/BikeBeaverton.

The 2020 Beaverton Ten Tiny Dances has been cancelled. Funds initially budgeted for this event have been redirected towards relief grants for arts organizations and stipends toward artists. For more information, visit www.BeavertonOregon.gov/TTD.

Learn something new at our virtual How-to Fest for all ages! There’s something for everyone, with sessions on topics including crafting and cooking. National Night Out, originally scheduled in August, is now planned for Tuesday, October 6. The Beaverton Police Department looks forward to join friends and neighbors at this annual event and celebrate a neighborhood night out. The Beaverton Half Marathon has been postponed to Sunday August 8, 2021. Registered runners will automatically be deferred to 2021 at no additional cost. Please visit www.runwithpaula.com/beaverton-half-marathon for additional details.

This year’s Beaverton Night Market will be held virtually on Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15. Join us for an interactive, live-streamed cultural sharing experience with performances, workshops, demonstrations, interviews, panels and more. A limited supply of meal and craft kits for sale will be offered just prior to the market from some of the featured vendors so you can experience a piece of the market while you tune in from home with friends and family. The annual Flicks by the Fountain event will be presented as virtual Movie Trivia Nights hosted via livestream in August. There will be trivia questions from both newer and older movies, and participants can win prizes by participating. The Beaverton Celebration Parade will be presented as a virtual event showcasing the many talents of our Beaverton community members, nonprofits and businesses. Participants can create a miniature parade float in a shoebox, perform a dance, build a craft, play an instrument, and more. Pictures and videos of Parade entries will be accepted Monday, August 3 to Friday, August 28. Visual artists in Oregon are invited to submit their artwork to the 2020 Beaverton Arts Mix! (BAM!) Virtual Art Show & Sale. The online show will be held October 1-31 to celebrate Arts & Humanities Month online at www.BeavertonOregon.gov/BAM. The deadline to apply is Thursday, June 18.
