(Hillsboro, Ore.) — Since 2012, the City of Hillsboro has annually awarded the Picture Hillsboro Purchase Award to an original two-dimensional work of art that represents the City of Hillsboro. The selected work is purchased and added to the City’s Public Art Collection, to be reproduced and presented as official gifts in City travel throughout the world. The Picture Hillsboro Purchase Award emphasizes Hillsboro’s pride in its creative community and serves as an acknowledgment of the contributions artists make to the City.
This year, twelve finalists have been selected from over 60 submissions. The finalists will be presented at the Hillsboro City Council meeting on January 21, 2020, and their work will be on display at the Civic Center Auditorium in downtown Hillsboro from January 9 through March 2, 2020. The Purchase Award selection will be announced at the City Council meeting on February 18, 2020.
The works that have been selected as 2020 finalists represent Hillsboro’s parks, beloved public art pieces, rural vistas, and historic downtown. This year’s finalists show unusual perspectives of the city and a wide range of painting and photographic styles, and range from professional artists to relative newcomers, all passionate about developing their work.
