The Hillsboro City Council recently adopted a resolution designating a Cultural Arts District in Downtown Hillsboro. This new designation, along with the City’s adoption of the Hillsboro Cultural Arts Action Plan in 2018, will support and enhance arts and culture in the City by contributing to a vibrant, thriving, and historic Downtown. In addition, the Hillsboro Downtown Cultural Arts District aims to drive economic revitalization by building on existing arts, partnering with local businesses, encouraging entertainment activity, and broadening the community’s emphasis on inclusion and equity. This position truly is the epitome of arts, culture, tourism, and community collaboration!

The Parks & Recreation department seeks a collaborative and community-focused candidate to lead as the City’s newly approved Cultural Arts District Program Manager. This position will be responsible for design and implementation of the Hillsboro Downtown Cultural Arts District Plan and will lead and coordinate the District Arts Advisory Board – an advisory board of downtown stakeholders. The position will operate under the direction of the Senior Parks Manager for Arts, Culture and Special Events and will work closely with the City’s Economic Development department, various City departments, and partner organizations.
The last few years have seen extraordinary, first-ever developments in the cultural life of Hillsboro. In addition to the City’s own Walters Cultural Art Center, professionally run organizations are finding a home and audience in Hillsboro. There are now several new and restored theatres, galleries, and venues in operation.
