North Plains Public Library Virtual Haiku Contest, Deadline: Apr. 30

Celebrate National Poetry Month this April. The North Plains Public Library will host a Virtual Haiku Contest beginning Wednesday, April 1st and accepting entries though noon on April 30thPlease submit poems to [email protected]

When you submit your original haiku, please include the following: 

  • Name 
  • Grade you are in or if you are an adult
  • If we can post your haiku on social media, & if so is it OK to include your first name in the post. 

The theme for the contest is Nature. Contest winners will be chosen from each of the three age groups:

  • Kindergarten-6th Grade
  • 7th -12th Grade
  • Adult

Winners from each category will receive two admission passes to the Portland Japanese Garden! 

You may ask, “What is Haiku?” Haiku is a form of poetry, first made popular in Japan, which has become appreciated around the world. Haiku poets are challenged to convey a vivid message in only 17 syllables. Syllables are arranged in three lines of 5-7-5. Enter as many times as you like! Good Luck and have fun!
