She studied Art in college while designing/selling jewelry and clothing. Donna Sanson

I grew up with an aunt who was a professional artist, and was chosen by my third-grade teacher to attend special art classes at Carnegie Museum in my hometown of Pittsburgh PA. I continued to attend these Saturday morning classes through my high school years. Later, while living in Wichita Falls, Texas, and while my children were in school, I continued my quest for a fine art degree at Midwestern State University under the encouraging instruction of Richard Ash and Liz Yarosz. My life soon led me to the Bay Area of San Francisco with opportunities galore to participate in the art community. I attended monotype classes at Palo Alto Art League, became gallery director at Fremont Art Association, formed an exhibiting group of artist friends into Artists 7, became a member of Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park, and began teaching drawing and watercolor in private classes and through the Fremont Adult School. I attended a painting workshop at La Romita School of Art in Umbria Italy taught by Carol Maddox and have continued taking workshops over the years – Claire Verbiest, John Salminen, Elio Camacho, Mitch Baird, Yong Hong Zhong, and Michael Lindstrom.

When my husband retired, we moved to Beaverton, Oregon to begin a new adventure in a part of the country new to us and which filled most of the items on our bucket list. I met a group of wonderful area artists while participating in Portland Open Studios and the seeds were planted to open a fine art gallery for my Beaverton community and the talented artists in and around my new home. Art On Broadway Gallery officially opened in October, 2009, and I remained as its leader until March of 2018.  I then spent ten weeks traveling through France and Italy, painting at my leisure, and thinking about what to do next. Within the last seven weeks I rented space in a building in Multnomah Village filled with artists’ working studios, and on October 4 I opened Art In The Village gallery featuring original artwork by twenty accomplished artists.

No matter where I find myself, my connection to art has been instructive, challenging, supportive, and joyous!
